How Does It Work

When a potential beneficiary is referred to us, we will interview them to establish their need and ability to pay the benefit amount back. The appropriate dollar amount will then be forwarded directly to the treating doctor or therapist, in the patient’s name, in order for the provider to develop a treatment plan for the patient and to help get them started. Contact between all parties will need to happen each month to determine if the patient is in compliance and if support should be continued.

Patients, once they are started and stable, are encouraged to increasingly contribute to their own treatment and eventually to pay the benefits back/forward to help the next person.

Having skin in the game, i.e. paying for one’s own treatment, is instrumental in building patients’ pride and self-value for being able to care for themselves. It is one of the first steps towards meaningful recovery.

“Charity is injurious unless it helps the recipient to become independent of it.” John D. Rockefeller
